The Omakau and Districts ANZAC Committee

Welcome’s everyone to join us for the

ANZAC Day Service 2016 – 10am
Omakau Hall
OMAKAU

This year we will be remembering the ‘Battle of Somme’, where the ANZAC’s headed after “Gallipoli’. The loss of life in this battle was huge and conditions terrible.

The parade will be another significant event, this year focusing on how young and vulnerable our soldiers and nurses were. Parade assembles at 9.45amoutside Commercial Hotel, Omakau.

Keith Scott as our speaker. His family were in Gimmerburn then Little Valley before shifting to South Canterbury. He wrote the excellent book on the local soldiers from this area that went to WW1 so is very in touch with the locals and the impact it had on Poolburn/Moa Creek, St. Bathans to Chatto Creek. Because of their being children present he will also talk about “Dot’s Little Folk” which were letters to the paper by children from this area and how the war affected them.

The local School children will be performing a song with visual pictures.

Of special mention, we are honoured to also be displaying a large WW1- WW2 war memorabilia from a local private collection.

We encourage local families, friends and visitors far and wide to come join us,
